What a certificate of recognition is for
Recognition acknowledges a contribution over time: years of service, leadership, reliability, citizenship or a project someone carried. It sits between two other certificates. A certificate of achievement names one result; a certificate of appreciation says thank you. Recognition says “we noticed what you have been doing, and it matters”.
What to put on it
- What is being recognised, in plain words: “for 10 years of dedicated service”, “for leading the library volunteers”.
- The period it covers, such as a year, a season or the years of service.
- The organisation and its logo, and the signature of the person presenting it.
- A certificate number if recognition awards go in a register, for example REC-2026-001.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between recognition and appreciation?
Appreciation is a thank-you, often for help with one event or season. Recognition acknowledges a sustained contribution or quality, such as years of service or leadership. The wording differs: “with thanks to” for appreciation, “in recognition of” for recognition.
What do I write on a long-service certificate?
The number of years, the organisation and, if you like, the role: “in recognition of 20 years of dedicated service as a school crossing patrol”. The date of the presentation can go in the Date field.
Can each certificate have a register number?
Yes. Tick Number each certificate, set a prefix such as REC-2026- and the first number. Numbers follow the order of your list.
Can I add two signatures?
Yes. Fill in Signer 1 and Signer 2 with names and roles, for example a chair and a director, and optionally add an image of each signature.
