What a retirement certificate says
A retirement certificate is a thank-you and a keepsake, usually presented at a leaving do, a staff meeting or an end-of-year assembly. It marks the years someone gave, so the certificate should name the organisation, the years of service and, ideally, something specific they will be remembered for.
What to put on a retirement certificate
- The title: “Happy Retirement”, “Certificate of Retirement” or “In Honor of Your Retirement”.
- The retiree's name, the way colleagues know them.
- Years of service and role: “for 32 years as a teacher at Hillside Primary, 1994–2026”.
- A personal line: what they built, changed or will be missed for.
- Signatures from the head of the organisation and a colleague, with your logo.

One certificate, or one for every retiree
For a single retirement, type the name and print one copy on heavy card (200–250 gsm) for framing; Download › PNG gives an image for a farewell card or slideshow. At the end of a school or financial year, paste every retiree with their own years of service after the name, and each gets a certificate in the same design.

Frequently asked questions
What should I write on a retirement certificate?
Name the person, their role, the organisation and their years of service, and add one personal line about what they will be remembered for. Keep it short enough to read aloud.
Can I print just one retirement certificate?
Yes. Type one name under Recipients and print. Choose landscape or portrait under Design and paper, and use heavy card if it will be framed.
Can I add a photo of the retiree?
The logo slot takes any PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG image under 2 MB, so you can use a small photo there instead of a logo. It prints at the top of the certificate.
Which design suits a retirement?
The Classic and Laurel designs look formal and frame well; Minimal suits a modern office. All of them print on A4 or US Letter.
