How teachers use Star of the Week

Star of the Week – called Student of the Week in many schools – is usually given on a Friday to one or a few children, often in an assembly or at the end of the day. It works best when every child gets a turn over the year and the reason is personal: the child, their parents and the class should know exactly what was noticed.

Star of the Week wording examples

Star of the Week or Student of the Week?

Both names mean the same weekly award; younger classes tend to use Star of the Week, older ones Student of the Week. To switch, change the Certificate title to “Student of the Week” – the wording, design and signatures stay as they are. For a monthly award, see the Student of the Month certificate.

    Same design every week

The design, logo, wording and your signature are remembered in this browser. Each Friday, type the names and reasons and print. If you prefer to write by hand, print a set of blank certificates once: leave the names empty and choose the number of copies in the print dialog.

More wording, whole lists and printing

The wording guide has 13 more star of the week wording examples, each with a link that fills it in here. To make one for every name on a class, team or staff list, see how to make certificates in bulk from Excel or Google Sheets. For the last week of the school year there is also an end-of-year awards list with an award for every child. Before printing on card, read how to print certificates for paper weights and print settings.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I keep the same design every week?

Yes. Everything except the names is remembered in this browser automatically; tick Remember names on this device if you want the names kept too.

Can I print blank Star of the Week certificates to fill in by hand?

Yes. With no names, the button prints one certificate with an empty name line. Set the number of copies in the print dialog.

Can there be more than one star in a week?

Yes. Paste each child's name with their own reason after a tab, “|” or comma, and each one gets a separate page.

Which design suits a primary classroom?

The Playful designs (coral, sky blue, and the Christmas and Halloween ones) are the brightest; the Classic and Laurel designs look more formal. All of them print on A4 or US Letter.

All 17 are on the certificate templates page, grouped by occasion, in 24 designs.
