When a scholarship certificate is given

A scholarship certificate is usually presented at an awards night, a graduation or a donor event, and the recipient keeps it as a record of the award. It does not replace the award letter, which sets out the amount, the conditions and how the money is paid; the certificate is the part that is presented in public and framed.

    Several scholarships, one print run

At an awards night, each recipient often has a different scholarship. Paste every recipient with their own scholarship line after the name – Daniel Kim | as the recipient of the Booster Club Athletic Scholarship – and set a general title such as “Scholarship Award”. All certificates come out in one design, in the order of your list, ready to hand out.

More wording, whole lists and printing

The wording guide has 11 more scholarship certificate wording examples, each with a link that fills it in here. To make one for every name on a class, team or staff list, see how to make certificates in bulk from Excel or Google Sheets. Before printing on card, read how to print certificates for paper weights and print settings.

    Frequently asked questions

Should the scholarship amount go on the certificate?

It is up to you. The amount and conditions belong in the award letter; on the certificate, many schools show only the scholarship's name. If you want the amount shown, put it in the reason line.

Can each recipient have a different scholarship name?

Yes. Put the scholarship line after each name, after a tab, “|” or comma, or paste two columns from your list. Each certificate shows that recipient's own scholarship.

Who should sign a scholarship certificate?

Usually the chair of the scholarship committee and the principal, or a representative of the donor or foundation. Two signers fit, each with a name, role and optional signature image.

    Which design suits a scholarship?

A formal one: the Classic designs have a gold frame and seal, and the Laurel designs a wreath above the title. Print on 200–250 gsm card if the certificate will be framed.
